Abstract

In this article, the importance of game rules that are set up by the federations concerned, in the prevention of sports injuries, will be assessed. These injuries may exist in all sports, and may cause athletes to stay away from sports for a certain period. They are one of the biggest health problems that concern both the clubs and the athletes from an economic point of view. It is an important issue to work to minimize the risk of sports injuries. Pre-determining the risk factors and reorganizing them is crucial to prevent injuries. Following the rules of the game may reduce the risk of injuries, together with the right training, the right technique, and fitness level and body structure. By game rules; using the required equipments properly and respecting the opponent within the framework of fair play is meant. In order to avoid the injuries, international sports federations regulate the rules of the games concerning the usage of equipments, and the behaviors of the athletes towards each other. Various studies have revealed that if these rules are followed, the risk of injuries may be decreased. Consequently, in order to prevent sports injuries, following the rules of the games is at least as important as other risk factors, and athletes should be educated about these subjects.
