Abstract

People come together in numbers for various purposes as spectators or participants, and the resulting crowd is called “mass”. If the number of participants for a definitive event is more than 1000, the event is called a “temporary mass gathering”. Depending on the nature of the event, one of the major issues of the organizing committee is the planning and and management of preventive and therapeutic medical services according to pre-determined health risks. This is one of the areas of disaster medicine called “mass gathering medicine”. Sports organizations are important gatherings in this context, in view of the risks imposed on the participants. The present study discusses the necessary approaches in such organizations.
