Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships among different type of anaerobic power and capacity tests in young soccer players. A total of 124 male young soccer players (age 16.1 ± 1.0 yrs) of Super League teams participated in Wingate anaerobic bicycle test (WanT), multiple jump (CS), and zigzag agility (HUFA) tests. Subjects performed randomly each test at the same time of separate days with one day intervals. Power output was calculated every five seconds for WanT and CS tests. Velocities were calculated every 15 m in the HUFA test. Fatigue indexes (WYI) were then calculated by max - min differences of the parameters relative to maximum scores for all of the tests. The highest significant Pearson’s correlations were obtained between peak velocity in HUFA and peak power in CS (r=0.39, p<0.05), and the average power scores (r=0.38, p<0.05) between these two tests. Thus, significant but low level correlations were found among anaerobic power and capacity test parameters in the present study. Thus, it may be more appropriate to evaluate anaerobic power and capacity characteristics by means of tests that reflect better soccer’s essential features.
